Meet the modern classic.
Features may include:
The CRF1100 Africa Twin's 1,084 cc parallel-twin engine pulls hard from 2,500 rpm all the way to the redline. A 270-degree phased crankshaft and uneven firing interval give a distinctive sound and feel while helping to produce strong, linear power and instant response anywhere in the rev range.
The exhaust system incorporates a variable Exhaust Control Valve (ECV) similar to the unit fitted to the CBR1000RR. It enhances both engine performance and efficiency as it opens at higher rpm and gives a pleasing exhaust-note pulse at lower revs.
The Africa Twin is available with either a robust six-speed manual gearbox or an advanced, automatic shifting, six-speed Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). DCT features four automatic modes that adjust the shift patterns to match your riding style or the conditions, and a manual mode that allows you to shift gears with triggers on the left handlebar. These triggers can also be used to override the automatic modes gear selection at any time.
For 2022 the DCT provides smoother performance from a standing start and while manoeuvring at low speeds thanks to improved setting in first and second gears.
The six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) allows cornering and incline detection on DCT models. The IMU knows when the bike is cornering or on a steep incline and can adapt the gear shift pattern to give you better control and a more natural gear shift feel.
At the heart of the Africa Twins elevated on- and off-road performance is a Bosch MM7.10 six-axis Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that measures six-axis of data and sends that information to other critical systems like HSTC, ABS, and wheelie control. These systems make adjustments in real-time to give you total control.
The Africa Twin has four default riding modes: Tour, Urban, Gravel, and Off-Road, plus two customizable User modes to cover any riding condition or situation. Each of these modes presets power delivery, engine braking, ABS settings, and HSTC torque control.
The aluminum clutch centre and pressure plate use assist cams to ease upshifts and slipper cams to prevent wheel lock-up during deceleration and downshifting.
The Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) system comes with seven levels of torque control and an off setting. The IMU can determine when the rear-wheel starts to slip out and it will seamlessly modulate your torque control to keep you in that sweet spot during acceleration.
The wheelie control system takes cues from the IMU to know when and how fast the front wheel is lifting and reacts accordingly. There are three levels of wheelie control, plus the ability to turn it off.
The strength and rigidity balance of the steel semi-double-cradle frame helps to boost off-road ability while also reinforcing all-round on-road manners. The Africa Twin is engineered to handle the most rugged off-road adventures while providing the comfort of a touring motorcycle and the everyday competence of a great all-rounder or day-to-day commuter.
A bolt-on aluminum subframe and aluminum swingarm help to reduce weight for improved handling and manoeuvrability.
